Bring your assignment #4 to class on Monday for trouble shooting!

Hello Class,

Bring your assignment #4 to class on Monday for trouble shooting!

This coming Monday (10/31), I am going to do a shorter lecture along with our discussion of the readings (I’ve cleared out space on my google account so the discussion lead template should be accessible again), then dedicate the rest of class time for you to work on assignment #4 and get help form me if you need it.

Obviously, the best way to take advantage of this time is to have already started working on the assignment – we’ve had it for 2 weeks now with several in-class activites and tutorials to help you.

Enjoy your weekend!

P.S. Assignment #3 is graded:)

Meet in RO227 on 10/19 + Tutorials Available!

Hello Class,

Just a friendly reminder that class is meeting in Rosenthal 227 (library) tomorrow (10/19) for a Census workshop with our Urban Studies librarian Max Thorn.

Also, I’ve posted video tutorials to the Resources page that walk you through how to serach for data, clean it and make some graphs, along with some other youtube videos on using Excel.

See you tomorrow in RO227!

Great First Day!!

Hello Class and Welcome!!

Much appreciation to you all for a wonderful start to the semester – I’m looking forward to working with each of you as we learn to access and analyze publicly available data to better understand the world around us.

Here is the link to the class website (which is also available on Blackboard) –https://urbst200f22lilli.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

As per the syllabus, please read the syllabus carefully and bring any questions you may have to class on Wednesday 8/31. I’ve tried to make everything as clear, accessible, and straightforward as possible, but you may still have questions or need clarification.

I have uploaded an updated syllabus that shows what week is your discussion leader week. On the Wednesday of each week, I can advise the following week’s leader(s) which material(s) would be best suited for the discussion template – you don’t have to fill out a template for all of that week’s material, but rather one longer/denser piece or two shorter ones, depending on the week. You’ll fill out the template(s) for the material(s) and we’ll use that to get into the headspace of that week’s topic and as the basis to start a class discussion (please read the ‘Class Participation’ section under ‘Assignments’ on the website) .

That’s it for now…see you Wednesday!!
